The award-winning Isle of Purbeck Brewery is located in Studland, a coastal village on the opposite side of Poole Harbour best reached via the chain-link ferry from Sandbanks. The brewery itself is right next door to the Bankes Arms, nestling in the Purbeck Hills overlooking Studland Bay and just a short walk from the iconic white sea stacks of Old Harry Rocks.
Following the success of the annual Bankes Arms Beer Festival, owners Jack and Pippa Lightbown decided to establish the brewery in 2003. Under the expert guidance of master brewer Dan Thomasson, the first beer, Fossil Fuel, was brewed to resounding success. Today the range has grown to five core beers encompassing a delicious spectrum of styles and tastes and the brewery also produces several seasonal beers as well as its own cider, Purbeck Pommes. The brewery supplies national and local pubs, restaurants, festivals and events both in bulk and in bottled format.
Having already developed a working association via our design and website work on the Bankes Arms Inn, we were tasked with designing and building a new site for the brewery. This work included creating search engine optimised copywriting and sourcing relevant images and video footage. We made sure that the Isle of Purbeck Brewery’s social media pages were created and cross-linked to the website enabling a steady growth of their online audience.
During the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 we added an online shop to the website enabling the brewery to continue to sell their beer during lockdown restrictions. This ecommerce facility will hopefully help them to continue to broaden their reach.
We also redesigned the brewery’s logo, incorporating the original seahorse logo (Studland Bay is a protected breeding area for these marine fish) and more ‘sturdy’ lettering to reference the nearby chalk cliffs. We have subsequently also produced several printed advertisements, posters, business cards, leaflets, packaging and van livery as well as new pumpclip artworkfor the brewery’s beers.
